The UK National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has just published its guidelines “based on best available evidence” on delirium.  The full document has 662 pages but there is a summary as well as guidance for patients and carers.  They recommend routine screening for delirium in critical care and post-anaesthetic recovery areas.  In this author’s opinion, the conclusion regarding pharmacological treatment disappoint but you will of course make your own mind up.

The full programme for the 2010 international delirium congress is available now on the European Delirium Association website and it is an excellent programme.  In particular note, Professor Wes Ely will be speaking and sharing new findings with us first from his latest research into ICU delirium. 

It is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the subject and emerge energised to make a real difference for our patients.

The 2nd edition of the Annals of Delirium has just been published.  It can be viewed and downloaded from the European Delirium Association website.  What it lacks in length, it makes up for in quality.  If you want to know what is going on to tackle delirium in our patients here and abroad - take a look.
